“It is not about where you have been, or where you are going. It is about who walks with you along the way.”
Stories of transformation often begin in the most unlikely places. The journey of Topik is one such story—a journey that moves from the streets of Jakarta to a life of ministry.
Meeting a Street Kid in Jakarta
I first met Topik in 2012 on the streets of Jakarta. He was just fourteen years old at the time, living as a street kid and trying to survive day by day.
Like many street children, his future was uncertain. Education had been interrupted, and opportunities were limited. Yet even in those circumstances, there was still a spark of hope waiting to be nurtured.
A Turning Point: Journey to Yogyakarta
In 2014, Topik made a bold and unexpected decision. He hitchhiked from Jakarta to Yogyakarta to join the work of the The Dreamhouse Foundation.
That journey became a turning point in his life.
At Dreamhouse, he found not only a safe place but also a community that believed in his future. Step by step, we helped him return to school. What began as a simple effort to continue his education gradually became a much deeper journey of personal growth and spiritual formation.
Returning to School and Discovering a Calling
The road was long, but Topik walked it with perseverance. With encouragement and support, he continued his studies year after year.
Eventually, his path led him to theological education. Earlier this year, he completed his seminary studies—an achievement that once seemed almost impossible for a boy who had lived on the streets.
Sent to a New Mission Field
Today we send Topik to his new mission field.
He goes not as the street kid we once met in Jakarta, but as a minister prepared to serve others. From a street kid to minister the Gospel.
His story reminds us that transformation rarely happens alone. It happens when people walk together—offering support, opportunity, and hope along the way.
Grace can rewrite a life story.
And sometimes the most important thing in that story is simply this: someone chose to walk the road together.
